What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional radiology is a medical specialty that performs various minimally-invasive procedures using medical imaging guidance such as ultrasound, fluoroscopy (real time x-rays) or computed tomography.
The concept behind interventional radiology is to diagnose and treat patients using the least invasive techniques currently available in order to minimize risk to the patient and improve health outcomes.
These procedures have less blood loss, reduced pain and faster recovery time in comparison to open surgery.
Mission
Our mission is to raise awareness about the role the life changing, minimally invasive, image-guided surgical techniques of interventional radiology that are already well established internationally but lacking in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
The ultimate goal is to create a dynamic, vibrant and responsive interventional radiology facility in Jamaica whereby we provide a first class, patient-centred service to the Jamaican population and thrust forward to become world leaders in the field of interventional radiology.
